About Me

Hi, I am Gráinne (an Irish name pronounced ‘Grawnya’). Please do not be put off by my name as I am not offended by people struggling with it and I understand it is not the easiest to spell or pronounce!

What am I about?

I’m a relaxed, calm, easy to get on with person, who likes to laugh at the funnier things in life. I love meeting people and building relationships. My non-judgemental open attitude means that I will support mum and their partner in whatever choices they make and bring no preconceived ideas or hidden agenda of what birth or parenting choices you should make. You’ll probably find once you announce your pregnancy that everyone has a story or opinion to share on giving birth! I’m here to help you look at all the options available. I encourage parents to trust their natural and cultural instincts and be confident in their values and beliefs to guide them to making the right choices. I am passionate about helping and supporting Mums and ensuring their partners feel part of the process. Partners are always empowered with information to help and support mum when I am not around. We will work together to empower you to give birth and parent your way.

My Family

I live in Ruislip and I am a proud mum of two challenging ‘independent’ teenage girls. With only a 15 month gap between the girls my husband (Matthew) and I could have definitely done with some Doula support when they were born. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing… My husband was a supportive birth partner but nearly fainted when I had an antenatal blood test, so we did not think he would make it to seeing Ruby being born. But he not only supported me throughout the birth, but he also cut the cord. Having been through this, I do not underestimate the emotions and wonder of the birthing process which has a huge impact on mum, the supporting partner and wider family unit.

Background

I was born and grew up in London surrounded by a wonderfully close large Irish family. My mum was 1 of 16 children and my dad had 5 siblings. Growing up, our home was always full of family and children of different ages. Having babies and children around was very familiar territory and I felt at ease helping out. I started practicing to be a Doula early (unbeknown to me) and in my teens I would spend all my school holidays visiting and helping my aunty to look after my baby twin cousins. I worked 28 years for Waitrose and one of my last roles was as a Commercial Relationship Manager. Over the years I found myself spending more and more time supporting and coaching friends and family through childbirth and the postnatal period. Despite having birthed my own two children I surprised myself at the impact I had when I supported my first birth. Just the little words of encouragement, help with positioning and letting mum know she is almost there, are just some of the simple things that makes the world of difference. I decided I was getting more fulfillment out of this and it was time to focus full time on people and their relationships! I investigated if such a role existed and was excited to discover Doulas. I would love to be a part of your journey and I am happy to have an initial call or meet up to have a chat. You are always in the driving seat and its important you feel comfortable with me and take your time to choose the right Doula for you.

She gave us invaluable suggestions and advice.

Grainne was so helpful in getting prepared for the birth, educating myself and my husband in a knowledgable, thoughtful, and caring way. She made us feel much more prepared than we would have been without her, and knowing that we had her on speed dial kept me calm. (We ended up having a scheduled c-section for medical reasons so Grainne wasn’t able to attend the birth.)

Grainne was also very helpful post-birth in looking after our daughter at night; I felt very comfortable leaving my baby with her to get a little bit of extra sleep in those first few hectic weeks, and she gave us invaluable suggestions and advice.

From the moment we met Grainne, we knew she was the doula for us.

We had randomly come across an article on doulas early on in my pregnancy. In all honesty, we hadn’t heard of doulas before and my husband and I both thought that this was the type of help we needed particularly as this pregnancy was ever so special to us. As first time parents (to be) we really didn’t know what to expect, what questions to ask and how to ensure the pregnancy progressed smoothly. We wanted to make sure we obtained the right advice every step of the way so that we could make better informed decisions throughout.

After some research my husband came across Grainne’s profile and contacted her. From the moment we met, we knew Grainne was the doula for us. No matter what time of day it was, Grainne listened, understood our fears and just knew how to put us both at ease throughout my pregnancy, delivery and beyond. We often received conflicting advice at the hospital but Grainne was good at explaining in layman’s terms our options. Importantly, she made me trust my pregnancy.

Grainne – As we approach our daughter’s first birthday, we just want to say a massive thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for guiding us through every step of this stressful yet beautiful journey.

We 100% would recommend you to anyone going through this journey. You were a god sent 🤍 xx

We were so lucky to have Gráinne as our doula from birth through the first three months with our baby. She stayed with us four nights a week and even cared for our baby all day and night when we attended a wedding — and honestly, we don’t know how we would have survived those early months without her!

From day one, Gráinne was incredibly caring, kind, and reassuring. She instantly put us at ease and made us feel completely comfortable leaving our newborn in her hands. Her knowledge about all things baby was invaluable — she guided us through every stage, explaining what to expect so that we never found ourselves in a panic or rushing to A&E unnecessarily.

Gráinne was also an amazing support for me personally on my breastfeeding journey. She helped me navigate cluster feeding, mastitis, and even milk blebs with such patience and expertise. Her advice and encouragement made all the difference.

She cared deeply not just for our baby, but for me as a new mum — always checking how I was feeling and healing. Thanks to her, we were able to get proper rest and show up as the best parents we could be. I always felt completely at peace knowing our little one was in the best possible hands.

Gráinne even managed to transition Nai from the DockATot to the bassinet (something I genuinely thought would never happen!). We are beyond grateful for her warmth, wisdom, and care — she truly became part of our little family during those precious early months.

If you are considering a doula, don’t hesitate for a second — Gráinne is exceptional!
