Derbyshire Doula was born after I struggled with PTSD and PND during the pregnancy and postnatal period of my youngest. I was under the care of the brilliant perinatal team who supported me through my recovery process.
After being discharged, the world seemed noticeably big and lonely and so I formed a local support group of mums who could come together and talk openly about mental health in pregnancy. I would often open my home to mums who needed a safe place. This quickly grew and sensing the need of more support for my community I left my job and retrained as a doula and in 2019 Derbyshire Doula was born.
My aims are to solve the issues of:
- The lack of in-depth knowledge provided to pregnant parents.
- The lack of emotional support that can be provided to parents.
- Mum becoming rushed and just another figure.
- Changing the face of mental health within pregnancy.
-Supporting families in finding an approach that fits them.
-Providing families with legal knowledge and empowerment regarding maternity
