Doulaography

Hey, I’m Najma, a recently trained birth and postpartum doula based in West London. I found my journey to being a doula when I unfortunately had to leave my previous job as a Production Secretary in Film and TV due to it not aligning with me anymore. In the background during that time, I had been researching about pregnancy, birth and the transformation motherhood has on us as I would like to be a mum one day. My interest in it grew and grew and I’ve always had a strong matriarchal household and culture, so it really made me appreciate the journey mums took so much more.

Like most doulas, once I realised I can support women and be a doula, it all just clicked for me. After joining my doula course, the passion to support women and families grew so much, I knew I made the right call. Being a doula ties in with my culture as we support mothers and their babies for 40 days after birth, and it makes the most sense because of how important it is for the mum and baby to recover and get the support they need during that time.

You might be a Solo mum or have a birth partner, my approach is personalised support for you and your birth partner. I really want to make sure you feel heard and seen in whichever journey of birth you’d like to take. I also believe that knowing your options is so important when making your choice, and it’s important to me that you feel empowered in your choice. Sharing knowledge is what makes choosing your options easier and more informed, I’d love to walk with you through that and advocate when it isn’t as easy as it should be.

Making sure you are prepared as you can be during postpartum is important to me too. This can be informing you on what newborn behaviours to expect, showing your birth partner ways in which they can support you, gentle guidance through infant feeding and being there for you after birth can make the fourth trimester feel less overwhelming.

I believe the practice of being there for the mum and newborn after birth should be practiced more, as it gives the mum and baby space to recover, feel looked after, cared for, be cooked nourishing food and makes the parents feel that they have a village to lean on.

I am here to hear your concerns, questions and hold space for you through it all.
